Notables


 

Maxine Baca Zinn, professor of sociology, was the co-recipient (with D. Stanley Eitzen of Colorado State University) of the 2000 William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Award. Zinn was honored for the eighth edition of her book Social Problems.

Two videos produced by Marketing & Creative Services have been honored with awards. The video ÒConsider Kresge Art MuseumÓ was a finalist for the National Telly Award, which is given to non-network productions. A public service announcement video entitled ÒClocksÓ won an Addy Award of Excellence. Addy awards are given to members of the local media establishment. Both videos also won a Communicator Award in 1999.

Fourth Genre and Bret LottÕs essay ÒToward HumilityÓ (Fourth Genre, Vol. 1, No. 2) were awarded the Pushcart Prize, the highest honor in small press publishing. A journal devoted to publishing notable, innovative work in non-fiction, Fourth Genre is published by MSU Press and edited by Michael Steinberg, professor of American thought and language. Lott teaches at the College of Charleston and Vermont College.

Jonathan I. Hall, professor of mathematics, and Ronald A. Fintushel, University distinguished professor of mathematics, were awarded the J.S Frame Teaching Award for outstanding teaching by the Department of Mathematics.
