Two for Four!
For the first time in MSU history, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be playing in the NCAA Final Four.
The men, who beat Kentucky 94-88 in a double-overtime thriller on March 27, will face North Carolina in St. Louis on Saturday, April 2. Tipoff is tenatively scheduled for 8:47 p.m. The men’s title game will take place on Monday, April 4, at 9:18 p.m. Games will be broadcast on CBS.
The women, who defeated Stanford 76-69 on March 29, will face Tennessee in Indianapolis on Sunday, April 3. Tipoff is tenatively scheduled for 9:30 p.m. The women’s title game will take place on Tuesday, April 5, at 8:30 p.m. Games will be broadcast on ESPN.
The men’s Saturday game will be broadcast live at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center. The doors open at 6 p.m. There will be no charge for parking or admission and concession stands will be offering special menu pricing.
The men’s team is making its fourth Final Four appearance in seven years, more than any other team. Before this year, the Spartan women had never been as far as the Sweet Sixteen round.
Michigan State becomes the sixth school to send teams to both the men's and women's Final Four. Connecticut did it just last year and each team won the national title, the only time that has happened in Division I play. |
Michigan lawmakers met with U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman earlier this month, making sure awareness of the importance of the Rare Isotope Accelerator (RIA) project remained high, urging the secretary to move forward and to recognize the MSU campus as a leading contender to be home to the $1 billion project.
