Annual plant sale
Gardeners can buy vegetables for the garden as well as perennials and annual flowers at MSU’s Horticulture Garden Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 4 at the Plant and Soil Sciences Building at the corner of Wilson and Bogue streets. Plants for sale will include perennials, heirloom vegetables, shrubs, roses, hostas, ornamental grasses and water plants. Some of the plants are divisions taken from the perennial gardens located on campus, some are grown on site from seed and others are donated by various companies. Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the MSU Horticulture Gardens. A members-only “Friends of the Garden” sale will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. June 3. Basic membership is available at the door for $35. Those who join at the $100 level will get a 10 percent discount on their purchases. House approves RIA project funds
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Energy and Water Appropriations bill that would

State plan could restore funding

economists announced a slightly better-than-expected economic outlook for the state of Michigan. The immediate effect will be the restoration
of some $16.5 million of
the
$30 million that had been cut from the 2004-05 state appropriation to Michigan's

Kenneth Moore, professor and chairperson emeritus of MSU's Department of Pharmacology
and Toxicology, is the recipient of the 2005 Torald Sollmann Award, honoring him for his groundbreaking research and contributions to the field of pharmacology. (Full Story)

Former arts and letters dean dies
Richard E. Sullivan, a widely respected MSU faculty member and administrator who was a leading historian and teacher of the humanities for 34 years, died May 26. He was 84 and had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a lung condition.

Summer institute to examine cultural economic development
MSU’s Community and Economic Development Program will host the summer institute “Ideas and Dollars: How Cultural Economic Development Makes Cents for Michigan” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 15 at the Kellogg Center. Understanding how to tap creative and cultural assets to spark economic growth and prosperity is the focus of the 18th annual summer institute.
