Residence halls to put 'peepholes' in room doorsStudents in campus residence halls will soon have added security with the installation of "peepholes" in room doors. After considerable research and discussion with students, staff and other universities, the Department of University Housing will undertake the installation of nearly 10,000 peepholes this spring. Although 93 percent of respondents to a survey last year indicated they felt safe in their residence halls, the issue of safety is an annual discussion topic for University Housing, Residence Life and Residence Halls Association staff members. "We work closely with students to provide information and assistance on safety in the residence halls," said Angela Brown, director of University housing. "The inclusion of peepholes, while adding some level of security and privacy, must be coupled with students being responsible for their own safety in the housing community," Brown said.
