NAME: Bob Brent If a picture is worth a thousand words, then Bob Brent has written a
complete history of MSU with the strokes of his paintbrush. Brent, University artist, has completed eight years of historical campus
renderings during his tenure on the staff in University Development. In addition to the artistic work he does for programs, banners, portraits
and brochures for events hosted by University Development, Brent has created
paintings of historical campus scenes. Some of these paintings, done with oil on thin wood veneers, can be found
on the new enclosed porch at Cowles House, the MSU president's residence.
Historical buildings and events are depicted on boards surrounding a glassed-in
tree in the middle of the room. The plan is for Brent to complete four or five sets of paintings for
the display and rotate them as the University approaches its sesquicentennial
celebration in 2005. "Thousands of people come through Cowles House and see this,"
says Brent. "It's important to show them new stuff." Brent's work can also be found in the atrium of Agriculture Hall,
and he has designed the University's last eight official holiday
cards. In addition to the Cowles House project, he is currently working
on some ideas for the new Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building. |
