A $2 million contract for construction of a new Spartan Child Development Center facility was among the 12 construction contract awards approved by the MSU Board of Trustees April 20.

The contract was awarded to LaSalle Inc. of Canton for construction of a single-story, brick exterior child care facility on East Crescent Road adjacent to the current center. The new 15,000-square-foot center will accommodate 124 children, about 30 more than the current capacity.

Other contracts were awarded for five interior facilities maintenance and improvement projects, three exterior facilities maintenance and improvement projects, one infrastructure improvement project, and two roads and parking improvement projects.

Awarded were contracts in the amount of:

  • $137,445 to HBC Contracting of Lansing for alterations to the administrative offices at the Food Stores Building.
  • $259,890 to Nielsen Commercial Construction Co. of Holt for upgrading the lobby and pharmacy areas of Olin Health Center.
  • $7.6 million to LaSalle Inc. of Canton for renovations to Shaw Hall, including replacement of the building's fire alarm system and installation of a fire sprinkler system.
  • $168,383 to Reb Construction Services Inc. of Auburn Hills for dining room renovations at the Troy Management Center.
  • $118,995 to Nielsen Commercial Construction Co. of Holt for installation of a kitchen ventilation system in Yakeley Hall.
  • $190, 478 to Bornor Restoration Inc. of Lansing to reroof sections of Armstrong Hall.
  • $88,794 to Bornor Restoration Inc. of Lansing to reroof the Manley Miles Building.
  • not more than $415,000 (direct costs plus 6.45 percent overhead and profit) to Bornor Restoration Inc. of Lansing to repair deteriorated veneer brick and parapet walls at Shaw Hall.
  • $598,700 to Municipal and Industrial Storage Inc. of Grand Rapids to install a new demineralized water tank and relocate the existing acid storage tank at the T.B. Simon Power Plant.
  • $3 million to W.P.M. Inc. of Grand Blanc for expansion of Parking Lot 89 at the corner of Mt. Hope Road and Farm Lane to provide 722 additional parking spaces at the northeast corner of the existing lot.
  • $173,740 to Carol's Excavating LLC of Fowler for the third phase of reconstruction of Parking Lot 65 at Brody Hall.
