NAME: Mark Andrews With the end of the semester rapidly approaching, the MSU Library begins
one of its busiest times of the year. For Mark Andrews, circulation operations supervisor, the end of the semester
is when library books checked out months ago are dusted off and returned
to the library. Andrews says anywhere from 5,000 to 7,000 books a day
make their way back to the shelves of the library during finals week. It's non-stop work for Andrews and his staff to get through all the books
brought back at semester's end. The main drop box is checked every half
hour during the last two weeks of the semester and is always full. Andrews' job revolves around public service, helping students and faculty
utilize the library's resources. He is in charge of scheduling students
and supervisors to check books in and out of circulation, helping library
patrons take care of fines and answering questions. "Technology has made our job much easier, with the addition of online
book renewal," Andrews says. "We help educate students, faculty
and staff on this new online renewal policy, which takes care of many
overdue book problems." |
